Barrel cleaning is a critical task for maintaining your rifle’s accuracy, but it doesn’t have to be a chore. At Craig’s Custom Rifles, we’ve perfected a fast, effective cleaning method that gets the job done without the hassle. Follow our step-by-step guide to keep your custom rifle in top shape!

Why Regular Barrel Cleaning Matters

Cleaning your rifle barrel removes copper fouling, carbon buildup, and debris that can degrade performance. A clean barrel ensures consistent accuracy, extends barrel life, and enhances your shooting experience. Our method uses trusted products like Montana X-Treme Copper Killer and Bore Conditioner for optimal results.

Quick & Easy Rifle Barrel Cleaning Process

Follow these simple steps to clean your rifle barrel efficiently:

  1. Remove Copper Fouling: Push two patches soaked with Montana X-Treme Copper Killer through the bore to dissolve copper buildup.
  2. Brush the Bore: Soak a bronze brush with Montana X-Treme Copper Killer. Stroke the bore 10 times, re-saturate the brush, then stroke another 10 times.
  3. Let Solvent Work: Allow the solvent to sit for 5 minutes to break down fouling.
  4. Dry the Bore: Run two dry patches through the bore to remove residue.
  5. Clean the Muzzle Brake: Spray the muzzle brake with 91% isopropyl alcohol to clear debris.
  6. Swab the Chamber: Use a dry 3” patch on a loop-style jag to swab the chamber.
  7. Alcohol Swab: Swab the chamber with a 3” patch lightly soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol.
  8. Alcohol Bore Cleaning: Push two patches soaked with 91% isopropyl alcohol through the bore.
  9. Dry the Bore Again: Run two dry patches through the bore to remove alcohol and residue.
  10. Final Chamber Swab: Swab the chamber with a dry 3” patch.

  12. Final Bore Dry: Run two dry patches through the bore.
  13. Final Chamber Dry: Swab the chamber with a dry 3” patch.
  14. Clean the Action: Swab the action lug recesses and raceway to remove debris.
  15. Lubricate the Action: Lightly relubricate the action raceway for smooth operation.
  16. Clean the Bolt: Wipe down the bolt to remove dirt and residue.
  17. Lubricate the Bolt: Grease the bolt lugs and lightly lubricate the bolt body.
